West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is set to surpass Desmond Haynes as the country's second-highest run scorer in One Day Internationals during the first ODI against Sri Lanka at Hambantota on December 9. Chanderpaul, who will be making his 262nd appearance in the shorter version of the game, is currently level with Haynes on 8648 runs and will climb to 15th on the all time list should he get off the mark in Hambantota.
It is unlikely that the left-hander, now 36, will be able to reach Brian Lara's West Indian record of 10348 by the end of his career though Chris Gayle, 31, is just 2518 runs shy of the Trinidadian on 7830. Lara is eighth on the all time list which is lead by India's Sachin Tendulkar (17598) while Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya (13428), Australia's Ricky Ponting (13,082), Pakistan's Inzamam Ul-Haq (11,739) and India's Sourav Ganguly (11363) make up the rest of the top five respectively.
