T&T's Matthew Marquez placed second in the boys 13-15 category of the Future Collegians World Tour's Ninth Tournament of the season at the Mark Bostic Golf Course in Gainesville, Florida, USA over the weekend. Marquez went head to head with eventual winner Juan Veloza of Columbia in a first place playoff after they each finished the 36-hole tournament on 144. Veloza snagged a par on the tenth hole to edge Marquez and take the title. Marquez, playing in his third event, manoeuvred through the par 70 course on the first day with three birdies and four bogeys to finish with a one-over-par 71, one stroke behind the leader Jakob van de Flierdt of Germany.
Tom Ng of Hong Kong was in third place at 72. At the conclusion of Day One, the top five players were within four strokes of eachother. Playing in the lead group on Day Two, Marquez started on the back nine and made the turn at one under par. He struggled on the front, starting with two bogeys, and closed off the day with a three-over-par 73. Coming from behind with a six-stroke deficit, Veloza shot an impressive two-under-par 68 to force a play-off with Marquez.
