National record holder Joshua Mc Leod, enjoyed his best placing at the Tenth Fina World Short Course (25m) Championships in United Arab Emirates, Dubai, when as he placed 30th in the 50m butterfly yesterday. This was on the second day of competition at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex. Swimming in Heat 13, Mc Leod stopped the clock at 23.78 seconds, placing eighth and last in his heat as he failed to repeat last month's National Open Short Course Championships performance where he set a new national open record of 23.51.
Today, Cherelle Thompson, George Bovell III and Mc Leod will all be in action, the last day of competition for the T&T swimmers. First off would be Bovell III and Mc Leod who are ranked 29th and 39th respectively in the 132 man field for the 100m freestyle. Two events later, Bovell III will be back into action, in the 100m Individual Medley with the Olympic bronze medallist ranked 18th in the 87 man field.
Thompson will compete in the 50m freestyle on Saturday. She erased the 15-17 record of Olympian Siobhan Cropper at the National Open Short Course Championships last month. Her 25.61 time has ranked her 34th out of the field of 100. The team which is accompanied by coaches Joseph Mc Leod and Shawn Pouchet, and secretary of (ASAT&T), Gary Morales returns on Tuesday.
