The dedication, commitment and desire to be excellent in our endeavours, have been excluded in our general efforts, leaving the lopsided appearance of an athlete on a money mission. The joy of seeing persons like Brian Lara, Stephen Ames, Roger Gibbons, Joseph Coombs, Machel Montano, and some other super stars, has ignited the thirst of wanting to travel a similar route to earn high salaries. But where is the intelligence? How many hours have we put into our efforts? Did we hope to achieve through natural talent without the assistance of commonsense and exemplary discipline? I have always drawn a line between a top athlete and a top sports personality, and the difference can be easily recognised when we view their "on the field" performance and compare it with their behavior off the field. Some examples can be called like Gerd Muller, Paul Gascoigne, Mike Tyson, as opposed to the great Pele, Michel Platini, Roger Bannister and the legendery West Indian, the late Sir Frank Worrell. I wish that our leaders have recognized the decay of our sport and will take some decision to relook at all the disciplines in order to evaluate the current state of affairs. The answers to a better sporting world may be found in the evaluation. Some may prefer to call it a Commission of Enquiry.
