National women's team stariker Natasha St Louis was voted the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament as Water One Real Dimension edged Trincity Nationals 3-2 in the final of the SW Futsal Invitational Women's Challenge Trophy at the Eastern Regional Sport Arena, Tacarigua on Saturday.
For her exploits, St Louis eceived the MVP Trophy, AS Bryden PI Division Hamper and a $1,000 gift certificate from the sports store Fan Zone of MovieTowne, while Real Dimension walked away with the cash prize of $4, 000, the SW Futsal Invitational Challenge Trophy, medals and hampers.
In the semifinals, Real Dimension slipped past Champions 2-1 and Trincity National eked out a 1-0 win over Maple Leaf International.Earlier on in the quarterfinals, Real Dimension got the better of Technocrats 3-2 on penalty-kicks; Trinity Nationals blanked St George's College Under-15s 2-0; Champions downed Trincity Nationals 'A' 1-0 and Maple Leaf ousted Sweater Touring Team 2-0 on penalties.
Prior to the kick off of the one-day tournament, former national goalkeeper Lincoln "Tiger" Phillips and Technical Director of T&T Football Federation reiterated the growth of women's football world-wide and nationally whilst, urging participants to continue to strive for excellence through sport.
Phillip's advised the players to stay away from negative influences and encouraged them to put God first in all their endeavors.Tribute was also paid national women's team player and Sweden-based professional Akheela Mollon for her success as a national player and role model to upcoming and young women footballers.
Other festival highlights included Red Bull Freestyle Exhibition by Kerron Forde.Speaking after the event, SW Touring Events Manager, Geoffrey Edwards said the women's tournament, the first event put on by his organisation served to sensitize and educate women footballers to the sport of futsal through participation.
"After this successful event, coupled with teams' willingness and positive response, our organisation intends to implement and manage further women sporting activities and projects." he added
This tournament was the last of the successful 2010 Calendar of Sporting Events for the organisation who celebrated its first anniversary on 21 November.
