President of the T&T Cycling Federation Rowena Williams says she is pleased with CAC Games gold medallist Njisane Phillip's performance at the World Cup Cycling in Cali, Columbia over the weekend.
Phillip, T&T's only participant at the competition, placed 10th in the Keirin, narrowly missed out on reaching the final when he placed fourth in the semis. He also took part in the Flying 200m in which he finished 28th.
Williams, who was elected TTCF president at its Annual General Meeting last month, said that the 19-year-old was making steady progress.
"I think it was a good showing from him considering that it was his first time competing at the World Cup," she said. "He had been competing as a junior up until recently and he just needs to get some more exposure at the top level. This experience will help him and he will know which areas he needs to focus on in order to improve." Phillip will compete in two more World Cup events in his attempt to secure a place in the London 2012 Olympics. In January, he and Christopher Sellier will travel to Beijing, China and the following month they will join Haseem McLean in Manchester, England.
