Back home, Cabralis resumed his winning ways, sharing the first prize with FM David Finol of Venezuela in the Under-20 section of the Caribbean Chess Carnival. At the inaugural presentation of the Umada Cup, Cabralis resistered another outstanding performance by placing joint third with IM Gustavo Hernandez of the Dominican Republic. This feat included draws with two Venezuelan IMs, Raphael Prasca and Julio Ostos, who placed first and second in the international tournament. UTT student Åditi Soondarsingh won the Women's national title with a perfect score of nine points from nine rounds. She has dominated the arena of women's chess within recent years, winning the national championship a total of six times.
