Kamba Edwards scored a match-high 24 points to lead LOL Dragons to a stunning 12-point upset victory (66-54) over South Side Players in the third place match of the South Central Basketball League Big Four match at the Latchoos Road Outdoor Court, Penal on Wednesday. Players went into the Big Four as the top seed, after taking the league title, but their unbeaten streak was broken by fourth seeded Los Bajos, before Players made it two defeats.
The Dragons who were defeated by eventual Big Four winners Penal 76ers, started firing from the first quarter, and were able to score 17 points, while holding the favourites to just five points at the other end of the court. While Players outscored the Dragons in the second 8-10, the lead was just cut to ten. It went back to 12, as the LOL unit rebounded to score 21, while Players netted 19.
With all to play for in the final period, the teams matched each other as they scored 20-20 in the period. While The league champs put up a valiant effort, it was not good enough to get them past the Dragons. Jazel Cedeno added 12 for the LOL team, while Marvin Williams and Kester McGuire had 13 and 12 points respectively for South Side. Meanwhile, 76ers defeated Los Bajos 59-52 to take the title, after placing second to Players in the league.
