National Senior Men's Squash champion Colin Ramasra had a mixed year on the court in 2010. The 27-year-old, who is T&T's first professional squash player, claimed five titles, including two locally, the last being the Lenny Sumadh South Squash Open, at the newly refurbished Pointe-a-Pierre Squash Courts. But it was not all smooth sailing for the national champion, as he went through a rough patch after his first three titles, due to the passing of his mother. He went out in the semifinal of the Senior Caribbean Squash tournament in St Lucia, and failed to get past the quarterfinal stage of the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Colombia.
While he claimed a silver medal along side Kerrie Sample in the Mixed Doubles at the CAC Games, he was not at his best. "The loss of my mom was a huge blow to me, and my game just went down hill. When I won with Kerrie, I was still out of it, but she was able to pick up the slack and that was how we were able to medal," said Ramasra. While he did not medal at the Commonwealth Games in Dehli, he was able to achieve a feat that no other Caribbean player has done. "I placed 19th overall, which is the best placing by any player from the Caribbean," he said. After winning the South Open last month, Ramasra said he was back to the level he was at the beginning of the year, and is looking forward to doing better in 2011.
