NORTH SOUND – Reigning champions Guyana, scored a thrilling one-run victory over Somerset in their Caribbean Twenty20 match at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, yesterday. Set 113 for victory, Somerset appeared to be cruising at 108 - 4 with nine balls remaining.
However, they lost four wickets without addition to that score. They needed five runs from the last over but could only get three as Esau Crandon proved difficult to get away. Nick Compton topscored for Somerset with 32 with good scores also coming from Suppiah (26) and Butler (18). Bardwell (2-19), Permeul (2-20) and Crandon (2-22) were the best bowlers.
Earlier Guyana struggled to 112 for 8 with captain and man-of-the-match Ramnaresh Sarwan cracking 59 from 48 balls with three fours and three sixes. The only other batsman to reach double figures was Royston Crandon who got 10 as opposing skipper Alfonso Thomas grabbed 3 for 23, including bowling Sarwan in the last over. (CMC)
