Jevaughn Watson was the most outstanding performer at the NAAA's Development meet at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Saturday. Watson of D'Abadie Progressive Club secured victories in the boys under-15 discus (23.13m), javelin (31.35m) and shot put (7.31m) events. Several athletes completed double wins. Leading the way was the top boys under-17 field athlete for 2010 Hezekeil Romeo (Memphis) who took the boys under-20 shot (15.92m) and boys under-17 discus (36.62m). Romeo's clubmate and Youth Olympic finalist Gabriella Cumberbatch sped to victory in the women's 100m hurdles (16.13 sec) and 300m flat (39.81 sec).
Aaliyah Telesford of New Jets won the girls under-17 60m (8.04 sec) and 150m (No time). Among the boys, Jabari Mc Kell, Andre Sandiford and Cordel Griffith also completed the 60/150 double. Mc Kell of Oasis crossed the line first in the boys under-11 60m (8.94) and 150m (20.42). In the boys under-13 age group, Cougars' Sandiford clocked 7.97 in the shorter sprinter and 16.70 in the longer race. Fellow Cougar sprinter Griffith, competing in the Boys under-17, was the victor in the 60m in 7.62 and 16.00 in the 300m.
The second development meet was carded for the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago but was cancelled for the second straight year. Former NAAA executive member and Zenith Athletic Head coach Gerard Franklyn told Trinidad Guardian there was a mix-up with start time. According to Franklyn the NAAA scheduled the event to start at 10 am but a decision was taken in Tobago to change the time to 3 pm.
