Last year's Digicel Pro League champion, bmobile Joe Public will look to keep its faint hopes of repeating as champion alive when it faces second from bottom Police in one of three matches today. The Eastern Lions and Police meet in the first match at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 6 pm while South End and St Ann's Rangers meet from 8 pm. With only two matches left to play Joe Public is second on the table with 31 points and goes into its match, hoping Defence Force (37 points) stumbled against San Juan Jabloteh. That match was scheduled to play last night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
A defeat for Defence Force would keep the title race open ahead of Friday's final round of matches. However, a win or drawn result for the Teteron Boys against Jabloteh would secure the title, their first since 1999 and 21st overall in local top flight football. A win by the Teteron Boys would also mean, Joe Public will have to tussle for second with Caledonia (30) and W Connection (28), which were scheduled to face off last night at Mucurapo in the opening match.
The runner-up in the Pro League also earns a spot in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, which serves as a qualifier to the Concacaf Champions League. The trio of Jabloteh, DirecTV North East Stars and Ma Pau each have 28 points and also have an outside chance of claiming second spot. In the day's other match, Stars will tackle Ma Pau at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
