Wynne, De Gannes cop top awards

Belgium-based Blair Wynne and Aidan De Gannes walked away with the women’s and men’s “Player of the Year” awards when Notre Dame Hockey Club hosted its annual end of season function held at Valpark Chinese Restuarant, Valpark Shopping Plaza, Valsayn recently. Wynne, who plies her trade in the Begium Premier Division with KHC Dragons won the award ahead of her cousin Curlyne Wynne and Stephanie Whiteman, Dana-Lee De Gannes and Tonya-Marie James. The speedy Wynne who led her teams in goalscoring, inspired the promoted Dames to fourth spot in the Women’s Championship and victory in the Big-Four competition.

She was a member of national women’s team which won gold at the CAC Games in Puerto Rico as well as fourth at the Pan American Indoor Championship in Venezuela, and ninth at the Commonwealth Games in India.  Aidan De Ganes, got the nod ahead of veteran Kenneth Whiteman, Nigel Providence, Chad  Pedro and Isaac Marecheau for the men’s crown. He was a member of the national men’s silver medal team at the CAC Games and tenth placed at the Commonwealth Games. Locally, De Gannes,  led his club to the runners-up spot in the T&T Hockey Board Under-19 Division while they won the National Youth Committee and Magnolias Invitational age-group titles. In addition to the top club award, De Gannes was voted as the “Most Outstanding” men’s player while he was also voted by T&THB as its men’s representative for the T&T Olympic Committee “Youth of the Year” award.
