National swimmers Cherelle Thompson and Caryle Blondell will head a field of more than 150 of this country's young swimmers listed to compete at the second annual Centre for Excellence Sea Hawks New Year Splash tomorrow. The meet which splashes off from 9 am takes place at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya Swimming Pool and is a qualifier for the Carifta and CCCAN Championships. The Blue Dolphins duo of Thompson and Blondell, represented T&T at last year's Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India while their team-mate Kadeja Phillip, who competed at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore will also be in action.
The Marlins trio 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championship finalist Joshua Romany, Carifta gold medallists Dylan Carter and Jabari Baptiste are also in the mix along with south-based national record holders Kristin Julien and Amira Pilgrim of Tsunami. Also in the mix will be top 11-12 swimmer Jewel Mulrain of Torpedoes Swim Club will have a similar agenda on her mind. The meet will be contested in a mixed open format with all the individual events in the sport from 50m to 1500m, Swimmers, however will receive trophies within their age group with the top eight swimmers overall being awarded based on points received in their best four events.
The best swimmer in each age group, adjudged via the FINA point system, will also receive an award. A day of keen competition is expected and swimmers are expected bright and early for the 7.00 am warm up, and parade at 8.30 am for the march past. The next day of swimming action is scheduled for Sunday February 13th 2011 at the same venue for the Tidal Wave Aquatics hosted TSTT Foundation Secondary Schools' Swim Meet.
