T&T Olympic Com­mit­tee Ju­nior Sports­man and Ju­nior Sports­woman of the Year Chris­t­ian Homer and Cherelle Thomp­son will be the favourites to win the cor­re­spond­ing ti­tles at the First Cit­i­zens Sports Foun­da­tion's Youth Awards Cer­e­mo­ny which will be held to­day at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts in Port-of-Spain. Homer took part in the in­au­gur­al youth Olympics in Sin­ga­pore where he won a gold medal to be­come the first ath­lete from T&T to win a medal at the Games.

Thomp­son set a new Girls 15-17 50m Freestyle record at the ASATT Open Na­tion­al Short Course Cham­pi­onships in Oc­to­ber, and was a fi­nal­ist at the CAC Games, a semi­fi­nal­ist at the Com­mon­wealth Games in In­dia and rep­re­sent­ed T&T at the FI­NA World Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships in Dubai.

In all, 34 young ath­letes have been nom­i­nat­ed by their re­spec­tive na­tion­al sport­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions. Mid­dle dis­tance run­ner Je­hue Gor­don was named "Youth of the Year" by the Foun­da­tion last year.
