Northern Football Association champion, West Side Stars, having already gained a maximum 12 points from its opening four games assuring the Diego Martin side top spot and a place in the 2011 bMobile Super League, faces second placed Eagles United today in its final "Champion of Champions" match on Presentation College grounds, Chaguanas, from 3.30 pm.
Eagles (seven points) will be chasing the other promotional place available and could secure that position with just a point from the encounter. However, a large defeat to West Side Stars and big wins by either Siparia Spurs, M&M Real Maracas and Matura Reunited (all on four points) could go against the Central winner.
Stars manager, Keith Taylor said yesterday his side would be going for an outright win in order to attract a big sponsor in its quest to make its mark at the higher level.Taylor, speaking after West Side turned over Real Maracas 3-1 last Saturday, explained that it will cost the club a hefty sum if it is to move from strength to strength."We are looking forward with the achievements we have made to attract genuine sponsorship to help with our programme," said Taylor.
"We at the club treat our players as if they are our sons because they are our main assets ...and you have to take care of your assets."We are a fairly new club operating on the local market and our promotion to the Super League will require us to get more information and update in knowledge on the football that is played at that level," added Taylor.
"We need to upgrade our whole system from management level to the team level with individuals who would assist us in maintaining, and improving, the high standard of football we have set in our first year."Among our plans is to continue the strength of the club and maintain the high standard of discipline set by the players. If we are able to do that, we hope to achieve the same results in the Super League.
Taylor pointed out that the cost of the Super League programme is more expensive with registration fee alone running into close to $40,000."We have several important things to discuss over the next month among them being sponsorship and fund raising." he said.West Side Stars, which is based at Four Roads in Diego Martin, is coached by Taylor's son, Paul Taylor and Brazilian Fabio Agrepino. In the "COC" before defeating Real Maracas, Stars whipped Siparia Spurs 2-0, came from two goals down to stop St Clair's Coaching School 3-2 and defeated Matura Reunited 2-0.
