Despite the change in management at the ARC, there is no noticeable change from the leadership of the past. Time will tell if horseracing can grow, but the indicators are that a complete shake up is needed and that people must understand that integrity and honesty are fundamental to the industry's growth. For the time being, Animal Health activists have every reason to be concerned because of the depraved conditions the horses are suffering at Centeno. Faced with reduced feed and lack of proper exercise, one horse has already being diagnosed with colic. So how many more must suffer because the Ministry of Agriculture has veterinarians that apparently are not equipped to handle this responsibility. It is perhaps time for the Minister of Agriculture Vasant Bharath to demonstrate that he cares about the health of animals and call both Dr Kangaloo and Dr David to account for this terrible mistreatment of animals. It is a shame that this is happening, but perhaps it is symptomatic of the horseracing industry when confronted by the bureaucracy of government operations. All sports have this problem, but something has to be done before it is too late.
