Windwards on T&T ‘hit list’

Currently fourth in the Regional First Class cricket standings, Trinidad and Tobago will be going for full points against the Windwards, when they meet today, at the Arnos Vale playing field in their fourth round match. The T&T team, winners of the regional T20 series, is currently on 21 points after three rounds and according to manager Omar Khan, the Windwards are one of the team T&T has targeted for full points. Khan said :”When we sat down before the start of the series to plan our strategy, we wanted to achieve 60 points and upwards. We targeted a number of teams for full points (12) and the Windwards are one of those.” On the hit list are Barbados, Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC), Windwards, Guyana and Leewards. So far T&T have achieved their goal of winning outright against the CCC but could not do it against Barbados.
This however, is not deterring them from their plan. “We got first innings points against Barbados, when we were chasing an outright but this does not throw the plan out the door. “We are still well on the way to achieving our 60-point target but the players must ensure we fight hard against the Windwards the home. We are confident going into the clash, the players are fresh although three weeks on the trot in the sun and they want success.” Yesterday, the T&T team had an intense session at the Arnos Vale playing field and Khan is reporting the pitch looks similar to all those they have played on during the series. “The pitch looks like a slow one, which is what we have gotten so far in the series. There seems to be nothing there for the faster bowlers and our attack will again revolve around our spinners. “The batting is coming along, although a number of players are getting starts and not carrying and this must change. We continue to harp on the point that they need to stay in the game, stay with the moment and don’t throw their hands.”
