The Dachin Racing Stable owned Boogie Blues scored an upset victory in yesterday's feature event, the GRII Arima Race Club Cup at Santa Rosa Park Arima. The Christopher Prime trained horse was sent off at 8-1 to win the $90,000 first prize. Joint favourites Cactus Amour and Montejo followed Boogie Blues home. From the off, Windjammer and High Mas were the leaders. They were followed by Cactus Amour and Montejo with Boogie Blues closer to last than first. Going down the back stretch Windjammer still had the lead but was being chased by High Mas while Montejo also applied pressure.
Cactus Amour tracked the leading group as Boogie Blues moved closer to the leaders. At the far turn, Montejo and High Mas were joined by Cactus Amour as Pavlyn Badrie brought Boogie Blues to challenge. At the corner, a loud roar was heard as Cactus Amour was being pressed by Montejo and Boogie Blues. In the final 600m, the light-weighted Boogie Blues asserted and pulled two lengths clear of champion stayer Cactus Amour. Montejo stayed on for third with Windjammer in fourth position.
The winner's time was 1:51.3.
In the other co feature event, The Royal Colours Classic over 1300m, the John O'Brien trained B's Passion recorded his second victory in as many starts when scoring by half length from Chloe's Gold ,which attempted to make all the running. Brian Harding had to work hard to get the Ladies Stables owned filly home. B's Passion, by virtue of her success, is one of the favourites for the Guineas. Riding honours for the day were shared by Brian Harding and Nicholas Patrick, who each had two winners. Training honours for the day fell to John O'Brien who saddled three winners. Races take a break this week and returns on March 12.
