Lorissa Rivas, a promising young talent, will be the feature boxer at the fifth annual Women and Girls in Sports Festival on Saturday. The card is organised by the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board of Control and the event is hosted by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs at the Eastern Regional Sport Facility, Tacarigua. The event this year is being held in memory of late boxing icon, Jizelle Salandy.

The event has attracted over 3,000 women and girls in several sporting disciplines which include hockey, football, netball, cricket, volleyball, table tennis, tennis and basketball as well as other sports. Rivas will fight for the WBC Cabofe 154 lbs title in a professional bout, less than a week before a scheduled fight which involves another professional, Floyd Trumpet.

Three four-round boxing matches are expected to be played in the event. Ria Ramnarine is also expected to make an appearance along with girls from the Boxu Potts’ Youth Academic and Talent Identification/Boxing Academy in Arima.
