Shane Harrigan captured three gold medals at the 2011 Southern Games which took place on the weekend at the Guaracara Park, Pointe-A-Pierre. The Oasics sprinter took the boys under 15 100, 200 and 400m. On Saturday Harrigan raced to gold in the 100 and 400m and then completed his hat trick of wins on Sunday taking the 200m. Harrigan was first to the line in 11:95 seconds ahead of Chad Richards (Penal AC) who clocked 11:97 seconds. Xavier Mulugata (Memphis) copped the bronze in 12:07metres. In the one lap event he triumphed in 56:37 with Mulugata in second (57:39) while Shane Hector (Toco TAFAC) collected the bronze (57:75). In the 200m sprint Harrigan crossed the line in first in 24:54 with Richards (24:57) and Mulugata (24:92) taking the minor places.
Games' chairman Jim Clarke was in high praise of the performances of the local athletes. Clarke was impressed 19 year old Michelle Lee Ahye who was second in the women's 100m finals behind American Gloria Asumnu. Clarke highlighted Moriba Morain and Rondel Sorillo who recorded double sprint wins. Morain captured the boys under 20 100 and 200 sprints and was later awarded the Dr. Cliff Bertrand award for the most outstanding local 200m runner at the meet. Sorillo took the men's 100m beating a quality field and then raced to victory in the 200m. Also coming for commendation as Barbadian Thorrold Murray who won the men's high jump with a distance of 2:15m. Clarke, a former NAAA executive member explained that more work was put into getting the Guaracara ground ready for this year's competition.
