National senior men's volleyball captain, Nolan Tash heads a 19-man list of players shortlisted by coach and his older sibbling Gideon Dickson to continue training for the Sixth Pan American Cup in June.The Pan American Cup will take place in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada from June 13-18.The locals are coming off their first triumph at the senior Caribbean Championship level in Suriname last year.The training squad has very few surprises and includes all the members of the victorious team in Suriname, including overseas-based professional Marc-Anthony Honore, who is currently in Brazil.
Other senior team regulars are Saleem Ali, Sean Morrison, Jessel Davis, Kevin Nimrod, Ryan Stewart, Kevin Amarali, Russell Pena, Ryan Mahadeo, Chrsitian Francois and Hollis Charles.In Canada, T&T will be making its third appearance at the tournament after being involved in the first two editions, 2006 in Mexico and a year later in Dominican Repeblic, placing sixth with victories over Panama in both instances.The Pan Am Cup is traditionally the first big tournament of the season for the Pan American teams and this year it is particularly important with London Olympic Games qualification starting next January.
It will also serve as a qualifying event for the FIVB World League for 2012.Last year, Puerto Rico advanced from the Pan Am Cup tournament to eventually qualify to this year's World League competition.The locally-based players will continue training today at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chaguanas from 8 am to 12 noon.An Under-23 men's team is also in training under Dickson and his coaching staff to participate at an annual Pan American Developmental Tournament at a venue and date to be announced.
