Father/daughter grab Ganga Foundation title
The father/daughter team of national player Wayne Baptiste and junior golfer Tori Baptiste emerged winners of the second annual Daren Ganga Foundation Golf Tournament held at the Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club on Saturday. The pair amassed 76 Stableford points in the two-ball aggregate event to win by two points over Dave Rajkumar and Mark Ramkissoon. Last year’s winners Carlos “Sexy” Baynes and Logan Roopnarinesingh placed 14th with 63 points. This year’s tournament hosted a full complement of 50 teams and participants including batting great Brian Lara, football hero Russell Latapy, West Indies legend Gordon Greenidge and former West Indies cricketers Rajendra Dhanraj and Lincoln Roberts.
Current T&T cricketers Denesh Ramdin and Justin Guillen also participated. It was a great day of competitive golf followed by an auction, a prize-giving ceremony and live entertainment by the exciting new band, Howling Dog. The auction was well supported with Rawlins Amar of Brava International outbidding all comers and carrying home a painting of Daren Ganga and a framed cricket jersey from 20/20’s biggest name player T&T’s Kieron Pollard. Sheldon Ganga, president of the Foundation, in his vote of thanks, expressed his gratitude to the major sponsors: TSTT, Direct Transport & Equipment Rentals Ltd, Caribbean Airlines, T&TEC and the Barbados Tourism Authority. He also thanked the tournament coordinator, Richard Lara, for putting on a great event.
