John Donaldson of GraceKennedy took first place in the third and final event, the Chancellor Challenge to complete the Carifin Urban Challenge in a run up the Lady Chancellor Hill, Port-of-Spain on Wednesday. Donaldson beat winner of the Savannah One Lap, Mark Thomas by just under half a minute to make it two consecutive gold medals in the series of fitness events.
The One Lap Savannah and the Green Mile, which also took place earlier this month, were the first two of three Carifin Urban Challenges which saw competitors of various financial institutions competing to promote health, fitness and fellowship. Donaldson, 45, took gold in a time of 14.27 followed by Thomas in 14.56. Thomas beat Donaldson by a single second to win the Savannah One Lap on April, 6.
Donaldson, however, was victorious in his attempt at the second challenge, the Green Mile on April, 13.
In that event, Thomas of RBL placed sixth. Placing third in the Chancellor Challenge was Akeem Simon of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT) in a time of 15.14. CBTT's Esla Anthony improved from her third placed finish in the Green Mile Challenge to take the women's gold medal in 18.45.
Closest behind to take the silver and bronze medals were Wendy Darbasie (CBTT) in 19.43 and Joelle Bannatyne (RBL) in 19.46. On Wednesday, Carifin will be hosting an Aerobics Burnout from 4.00 pm at the Eric Williams Plaza, Independence Square, Port-of-Spain followed by a Cricket & Football & All Fours on May 14 at the Republic Bank Grounds, Barataria.
