Jake Delaney beat Jean Marc Lawrence by one shot to win the Boys 16-17 Division at the 2011 national junior trials, which were held at the St Andrews Golf Club, Moka, Maraval, on Saturday and the Millennium Lakes Golf and Country Club in Trincity on Sunday. Delaney shot a 79 and 74 for a 153 total, edging Lawrence's 75 and 79 (154). 2011 Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Champion Andrei Collins placed third with scores of 86 and 76 for 162. The trials are part of the procedure used to select the National team for the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships in Barbados from July 4–8. Tori Baptiste led the Girls 16-17 with scores 95 and 90 for a 185 total. There was a tie for second place between Arianne MacKenzie and Alyssa Rahamatula. Brittany Marquez, the 2011 Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Girls Champion, was not available for the trials as she attends school in the United States while Natalya Rahamatula, who finished second in the Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open, had to withdraw due to illness.
Once again, Wan Jun Lee was the leader of the Boys 14-15 category, shooting an 86 on the first and following this up with a fantastic score of 69 on the second round. Dinesh Jackree finished in second place with rounds of 91 and 77 while Arvin Bhim came in third. Christina Ferreira was the runaway winner in the Girls 14-15 with rounds of 88 and 86 (174) with Kezia Bailey placing second with 199. The Boys 11-13 division saw Sachin Kumar in first position with rounds of 77 and 76 (153). He was followed by Liam Bryden and Sol Joanni of Tobago respectively. Ysabelle Lawrence was the clear-cut leader in the Girls 11-13, shooting rounds of 94 and 92 for a total of 186, while Serena MacKenzie and Sabrina Mitchell rounded out the top three. The selectors met at the T&T Golf Association's office in Moka last night to look at the criteria used for selection, which include the performances in these trials, the recently concluded Republic Bank Caribbean Junior Open, tournaments throughout the last year and past performances on National teams.
