Falomi Marcano was the last competitor standing from a field of 65 challengers at the Carifin's Aerobic Burnout held at the Eric Williams Plaza, Independence Square, Port-of-Spain on Wednesday afternoon.Marcano did well to finish in 49 minutes and 59 seconds, over 13 minutes longer than the last elminated men's winner Keiron Hart, who finished in 36 minutes, 36 seconds. The CariFin's Aerobics Burnout was the final phase of the CariFin Urban Challenge which follows the One Lap Savannah, the Green Mile and the Chancellor Challenge, all of which took place last month.
Marcano of First Citizens was challenged by both Ayana George (CBTT) who was eliminated in 49:32 and Riana Harrinauth (RBL) who made her exit at the 49:10 mark.Several minutes after Janeen Salim (GHL) and Krystle Gomez (CBTT) were shown the "red flag" signalling elimination. The top five finishers was a women's affair as they showed little signs of fatigue. The instructors sporting Gatorade gears seemed to show signs of slowing down even before Marcano and company did.
The event was rocked with the high tempo of Soca music mixed with fastforwarded mainstream Pop music to keep the energy flowing. Many passersby made their way into the surrounding walls of spectators to catch a glimpse of the challenge and possibly a taste of the various giveaways on the table from Marketing & Distribution. They then joined in the loud applause which followed the elimination of the second-placed George to declare Marcano champion of the event.
A point total will be released soon to give an overall placement of competitors who took part and placed in the various events hosted by CariFin.John Donaldson, the men's champion of the Green Mile and Chancellor Challenge, as well as the the runner up in the One Lap Savannah run, is expected to claim a near top-placed finish as an Urban Challenge champion.
Also in the runnings is Mark Thomas, who won the Savannah One Lap and placed second in the Chancellor Challenge. Esla Anthony, who finished sixth in the Burnout, is also expected to challenge for the women's crown as she was victorious among the women in the Chancellor Challenge, the Savannah One Lap and placed second in the Green Mile.To conclude the CariFin events, the inter-bank organisation which promotes health, fitness and comradeship and the financial sector, will be hosting a Cricket, Football and All Fours day at the Republic Bank Grounds, Barataria next Saturday followed by a CariFin X-C & Family Fun Day at the end of this month at the Sevilla Golf Course, Couva.
