West Indies Cricket Icon & Johnnie Walker Giant Sir Viv Richards joins forces with Trinidad Football legend, Shaka Hislop to launch a new Facebook page as part of the on-going Johnnie Walker Be A Giant: Don't Drink & Drive' campaign. Johnnie Walker®, the world's best-selling brand of Scotch Whisky, today introduced Shaka Hislop as the Trinidad and Tobago Giant to be a part of its Responsible Drinking campaign 'Be A Giant Don't Drink and Drive'. Shaka, a former Newcastle United and T&T goalkeeper, will show he has a safe pair of hands as he joins Johnnie Walker and West Indies "Giant," Sir Viv Richards, to encourage the people of T&T that they too can be "Giants" by not drinking and driving. As part of the ongoing Be a Giant campaign, Sir Viv and Hislop will be launching a Johnnie Walker Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/JohnnieWalkerTandT
Cricket fans and the wider public are invited to join the group and pledge to Be a Giant: Don't Drink and Drive. The Facebook page will provide ongoing updates from Johnnie Walker and great ways for the people of Trinidad to get involved with the Be A Giant campaign with Sir Viv and Hislop, including the Carnival Walk to the Oval. Everyone is invited to join the Giants, Sir Viv and Hislop for the Walk to the Queen's Park Oval, starting from Aura (51 Cipriani Boulevard) at approximately 4.30 pm before the Digicel Pearls T20 match against India. There will be plenty of fun and live music throughout as the Walk serves as an important reminder that if you are planning to drink, then you can leave your car at home.
Richards explained; "I'm delighted to be launching the Facebook page with Shaka. There are so many success stories from all walks of life and Shaka is definitely a proven "Giant" from Trinidad and Tobago. Everyone can be a "Giant" by pledging to Never Drink and Drive through the Facebook page. I hope you can all join Shaka and myself on the Walk to the Oval before the T20 match against India and get behind the West Indies team but remember, if you are planning on drinking, then Be A Giant-Don't Drink and Drive!"
Hislop added: "I've seen the great work that Sir Vivian and Johnnie Walker have been doing around Responsible Drinking in the Caribbean during my visits here, and I'm excited to be joining them. It's great to be launching the T&T Facebook page as part of the responsible drinking initiative. "I have walked out onto some of the greatest football grounds with some of the best players in the world, but I am thrilled to join a true cricketing Giant in Sir Viv Richards to encourage as many people as possible to back the important campaign on Facebook and make a commitment to themselves to Be A Giant: Never Drink and Drive." Richards, has been working with Johnnie Walker to promote Responsible Drinking in the Caribbean over the past four years and is, once again, the face of the "Be a Giant" campaign that becomes part of Johnnie Walker's global Walk with Giants programme. Sir Vivian's incredible life journey inspires and encourages others to become a "Giant" in their own lives.
He explains that the skills and attributes that made him one of the greatest cricketers of all time, such as being in control and setting an example to a team, are the same attributes required to elevate people to become "Giants" in their own lives today by not drinking and driving. Sir Vivian with Shaka will be asking people throughout the Caribbean to Be a Giant: Don't Drink and Drive and symbolising their pledge by signing up to the Facebook page. Rob Hobart, Marketing Director for Diageo in the Caribbean commented: "We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with the West Indies Cricket Board and West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards as well as working for the first time with a true "Giant" of Trinidad & Tobago, Shaka Hislop. "Shaka's success as a goalkeeper, his ongoing work as a pundit on ESPN and his local appeal will hopefully enable him to help us communicate the Responsible Drinking message to the people of the Trinidad and Tobago."
