DirecTV North East Stars defender Glenton Wolfe picked up his club's Player of the Year award at its end-of-season dinner and awards function held at Woodford Café, Movie Towne, Invaders Bay, Port of Spain on Wednesday night. The 29-year-old Glenton, brother of former national player Anthony, was also voted Players' Choice Player of the Year to walk away the brightest star on the night with the top two awards. Midfielder Marc Leslie who spent the latter part of the 2010-2011 season on the injury list was voted Player of the Year runner-up. Under-21 midfielder Jeromie Williams picked up the Young Player of the Year award and Kaydion Gabriel the runner-up. Special awards included Guyanese midfielder Carey Harris for Community Player of the Year, attacking Vincentian midfielder Kendal Velox who was pulled out of retirement got the Fair Play award and midfielder Akiel Guevara got the award for Goal of the Season.
The 2010-2011 season wasn't a bad one for the Stars on and off the pitch after making return to the top flight of competitive football in T&T after missing the previous season due to decisions taken club President Daryl Mahabir. The Sangre Grande-based club finished seventh in the Digicel Pro League Championship with 27 points, the same as Adam's Construction San Juan Jabloteh, but behind by a lesser goals difference. In the knockout competitions the Stars took home the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield and finished runner-up in both, the Toyota Classic and T&T Football Federation FA Trophy.
Stars together with main sponsor DirecTV also won the hearts of many with community and social projects across Trinidad. During his brief address, General Manager DirecTV Caribbean, Bernard Pantin applauded the tremendous spirit of the players and the officials. Speaking at the awards Stars' Chief Executive Officer and former club and national defender Brent Sancho said the club was proud to say that it was the best supported team in the Digicel T&T Pro League for the 2010-2011 season and was looking forward to bigger and better things in the new season.
