FORT WORTH-Stephen Ames missed the cut at the Crowne Plaza In­vi­ta­tion­al in Texas yes­ter­day when he shot a four-over 74 in the sec­ond round of the US$6.2 mil­lion tour­na­ment. Start­ing the day one-over fol­low­ing a 71 in Thurs­day's open­ing round at the Colo­nial Coun­try Club, the T&T-born golfer con­tin­ued to strug­gle with two bo­geys, two dou­ble-bo­geys and three birdies, to fin­ish five-over 145. The cut has been set at even par. Play was stopped in the sec­ond round af­ter a two and half-hour weath­er de­lay.

David Toms was alone in the lead at 12 un­der with sev­en holes left. He had a three-stroke lead over Steven Bowditch (64) and Char­lie Wi (67), who fin­ished their rounds yes­ter­day be­fore the de­lay that in­clud­ed heavy rain and thun­der. When play was sus­pend­ed, Toms had just teed off at the par-5 11th hole af­ter sav­ing par at No 10 with a two-putt from 65 feet. Af­ter 31s on both nines in his open­ing 62, Toms had a 31 again on the front side.

Toms lost in a play­off last week at The Play­ers Cham­pi­onship. First-round co-leader Chez Reav­ie had two birdies, a bo­gey and a dou­ble bo­gey through eight holes yes­ter­day.
