Former West Indies captain Brian Lara and former national footballers Dwight Yorke and Russell Latapy will be among a field of golfers competing for an $850,000 Porsche Cayenne when the Cotton Tree Foundation hosts its Ninth Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the St Andrew's Golf Club in Moka, Maraval, tomorrow. The prize, sponsored by Lifestyle Motors, will go to the first player to score a Hole-in-One at the club's par three seventh hole.
During the event's launch at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Port-of-Spain on Thursday, president of the Republic of T&T George Maxwell Richards commended the foundation for its investment in social development programmes around the country. "When we observe today what is happening among our children and youth, more particularly in the depressed areas of our country, I think we can all agree that the establishment of the CTF was a timely intervention in the affairs of the country. Critically, its early childhood outreach is seizing the opportunity to shape young minds in the right direction. It has been said that we are what we think and it is dangerous to postpone the task of planting good seed in the fertile minds of the very young. "
He added that in the coming years, he expected the tournament to attract top golfers from around the world.
As usual, there will be a cadre of prizes including Blackberry cellphones, premium golf bags, discounted golf club memberships, spa treatments, accommodation at luxury hotels and resorts, clothing vouchers and hampers.
