Heavy rain belted down on the Guaracara Park outfield yesterday evening, forcing the highly touted T&TEC versus PowerGen clash into a stalemate. The elements allowed only T&TEC's innings, before coming down decisively in PowerGen's favour ruling the match abandoned. The rain was so much that it did not even allow the one-over eliminator and hence PowerGen moves on to the semi-finals of the domestic T20 series based on the fact that they won more matches at the preliminary stage of the competition. The Penal boys won both their group games, while T&TEC won one and hence PowerGen moves on to keep up their battle for the $200,000 first prize.
Yesterday, T&TEC won the toss and decided to take first strike and at the end of their 20 overs they would have been a bit concerned after tallying just 131 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Again the PowerGen spinners were brilliant, led by the T20 specialist in Samuel Badree. The right arm leg-spinner a main trump card for the T&T team, conceded just 15 runs in his four overs and took a wicket. Left arm unorthodox spinner Dave Mohammed grabbed 2/15. Leading the batting for T&TEC was national allrounder Kervon Cooper who smashed 44 off 35 balls with four fours and a six, while skipper Jason Mohammed counted 21 off 22 balls and Richard Kelly had an unbeaten 18.
