North American and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) 15s defending champions T&T will face Guyana in a South Zone second round fixture today at St. Mary's Grounds, Serpentine Road, St. Clair, today at 4 pm. The national team is fresh off of last Saturday's 17-10 away win in Barbados and will be looking to seal another win over second seeded rivals Guyana, who are still feeling the effects of a NACRA Caribbean Championships 2008 final 40-24 to the Calypso Warriors in the Cayman Islands.
Before the Guyanese team left to travel to T&T, head coach said, "We are going into the Lion's den (Trinidad) with one thought in mind. My players are ready to rumble. We want it bad. Our objective is to beat T&T. We want the number one ranking (Caribbean 15s) to add to out sevens rugby crown. The players understand (that) they are representing the Guyanese people, our country and our flag. Our goal is to go all the way to the final and lift the crown."Like the T&T squad, Guyana's team features both uncapped and vastly experienced players.
According to a release by the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), the National 15s squad have been in intensive training for the past four weeks after the William Blackman 15s Cup Competition which was won by the Pepsi Hornets. The 2011 NACRA Caribbean Championships are separated by North and South Zones with the winner of each playing zone playing the other for the Championship title. The Calypso Warriors have been crowned Caribbean champions on seven occasion since 1967 and have been crowned in the South Caribbean Rugby Championship in 1999.
