ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada – President of the Grenada Football Association Chenny Joseph said he will not be offering any public comment on the bribery scandal that has engulfed North, Central American, and Caribbean (CONCACAF) football. Joseph returned to the island last Thursday, after attending the FIFA Congress in Zurich, where Sepp Blatter was re-elected president for a fourth term.
FIFA has launched an investigation into allegations that suspended CONCACAF President Jack Warner and former FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed bin Hammam offered US $40,000 to national associations of the Caribbean Football Union in return for their votes in the FIFA presidential election last Wednesday. "I do not intend to make any public statements while the matter is under investigation," Joseph told CMC. "I am however, prepared to make public statements once the matter is cleared-up at the level of FIFA."
Carl Phillip, a former executive member of the GFA, has been publicly calling for Joseph to come clean, but the GFA President has stood firm in his defiance. "The investigation is centred around four individuals none of whom are GFA officials," said Joseph. "The GFA has not been advised of any investigation against the organisation, or any of its officials. "While as a member of the CFU, the GFA will be indirectly impacted by the investigation, it does not involve or affect us directly at this time." (CMC)
