Celine Lestrade took the women's title at the 23rd Granny Luces 15 kilometre race which ended at the La Joya in Joseph. Lestrade went ahead in the later stage of the race to win ahead of Kema Mc Shine and Paulette Luces to improve on her runner-up performance last year.
The national cross country champion took home $4,000 for her winning effort. Defending men's champion Richard Jones was beaten into second by Cleveland Forde (Guyana). Jones, who was going for a fifth title, was in battle with Forde for the lead as the two pulled away from the leading pack. Forde made his move just after the Curepe junction and sprinted to the line to take his second win in the event.
He won in 2009. Curtis Cox was third with former top marathoner runner Michael Alexander taking fourth. Forde copped the first prize of $6,000 with Jones walking away with $4,000. Denzil Ramirez captured the men's 5K ahead of his Defence Force team mate Matthew Hagley of Guyanese Lionel Dandrade while Kertisha John topped the field in the women's race.
