New Champions were crowned at the National Primary Schools Swim Meet when Bishop Anstey Junior and St Joseph's Boys' and Girls' RC Schools won the co-educational, boys and girls titles respectively at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya, on Sunday. The meet, which was hosted by the Blue Dolphins Swim Club under the auspices of the Amateur Swimming Association of T&T, attracted 350 swimmers from across the country. New champions in each of the school categories were crowned.
Bishop Anstey topped all comers in the Co-educational Category with 267.5 points, 70 points ahead of their nearest rival St Xavier's Private. 2010 Champions Dunross Preparatory did not participate.
Bishop moved up two spots from their 2010 position, while St Xavier's was second for the second consecutive year. Curepe Presbyterian inched up one place to third. Bishop's charge was led by Leah Dos Santos, who topped the Ten-&-Over Girls Non-competitive division. St Joseph's Boys, which placed third last year, comfortably won with 83 points, ahead of 2010's second place Newtown Boys RC. 2010 Champions San Fernando Boys RC did not participate. Arima Boys RC advanced two places over their previous position to place third. Joel De Matas championed the cause of the St Joseph's, winning the Ten-&-Over Boys Non-competitive category.
The St Joseph's Girls unit earned 119 points to defeat 2010 champs St Gabriel's. They leapfrogged four places over their fifth position last year to win the title. Shakeera Villaroel and Kimlin Pinder won the Seven-&-Under and Eight-to-Nine Non-competitive Girls categories respectively, propelling the school to victory. Also chipping in was Arielle Lara, who was third in the Eight-to-Nine division. Arima Girls RC placed third overall.
