T&T marathon returns to original start and finish
The T&T International Marathon (TTIM) will take place on July 24 beginning at 5 am in Freeport. In rebranding of the T&T Marathon which in recent years was held in January, the start of the race has changed from the Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas, and back to its original starting point at Freeport junction, Freeport. The event will move back to its historical finish-line at Whitehall, Queen’s Park Savannah West, Port of Spain, instead of the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo. The start time of the event was set at 5 am to give competitors the advantage of cooler contitions to run in.
There will be overall and age group prizes as well as medals for all participants that finish the race. The TTIM will climax the three event running festival which begins on the day before the marathon. On the same day of the TTIM, there will be a half marathon to begin at the half way point of the marathon, in Caroni and will proceed along the marathon course and similarly finish at Whitehall. The half marathon will begin at 5.45 am.
On July 23, beginning at 4 pm, there will be a West Shore Medical 5K race around the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, which will also finish at Whitehall. The run/walk event is sponsored by West Shore Medical Centre in Baysore, Westmoorings. It takes place on Saturday, the day prior to the main event to avoid clashes of athletes who may finish at similar times. The race may be competed as a pre-TTIM warm up. There will be prizes for top finishers in all age categories.
