Reigning champions of the Super 10 Basketball League, Detour Shak Attack and national champion team Defence Force will participate in a Goodwill Tournament scheduled to begin next Thursday at the Jean Pierre Complex, Wrightson Road from 6 pm. The three day tournament is hosted by the Super 10 Basketball League (SBL) to assist former national basketballer Hillary Cobb, who sustained major injuries following a vehicular accident in January last year.
In her recovery since the accident, she has required medication and physiotherapy which comes at a major expense. The tournament-which will also see former national champion team National Flour Mills (NFM) and reigning South Zone champion Petro Jazz-will help in raising funds that will assist with Cobb's recuperation. Officials from the Association of Basketball of T&T (Abott) will referee the matches.
The tournament will jump-off at 6 pm on Thursday with NFM and Jazz in action, followed by a fixture between Detour Shak Attack and Defence Force. Cobb's friends and family are calling for assistance to help deal with her recovery. For more information about the tournament, contact SBL Tournament director Keith Clement at 681-6881. Cobb can also be contacted directly at 765-7910 and 753-1123.
