Senior member of the Joe Public team, Andre Toussaint is certain that recent developments involving former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner has had little negative impact at the Macoya-based club as they go about their pre-season campaign. The Point Fortin-born forward will lead Joe Public's attack in the T&T Pro League.
Head coach Rajesh Latchoo has been overseeing the team's preparations and has been given the thumbs up by Toussaint who is formerly of W Connection and American club Charleston Battery. Joe Public is the brainchild of Warner and has been handled by the Warner family with son Darryl overseeing the running of the club in his position as managing director.
"We have a young squad and I have a big role to play.We are definitely going all out to bring back some trophies and get back into the CONCACAF Champions League," Toussaint said. "The coach is young, he's good and he knows what he's about. The players are willing to work for him. The mood is good in the camp. The situation with Mr Warner has not affected us. The management has told us not to let that bother us. They have assured us that they will take care of things off the field and we should focus on the business on the field," Toussaint added. "The head coach has his work planned out and his assistant Dale Saunders is experienced. They both work hand in hand and sometimes when Saunders is around, the head coach can afford to let him run the session and he can look after other things also." Toussaint is in the national training squad under Otto Pfister and hopes to impress him sufficiently to keep a spot come game time. "It's tough but I'm working hard and I'm hoping to keep my place and also looking to perform well in the League to try and secure a spot," added the former St Benedict's College standout.
Wozniacki chats with Dwight
Current World number one women's tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has said that she's been receiving a lot good luck messages from Liverpool players, preferring to leave then unnamed for fear of reports that she was dating. She did however mention Dwight Yorke's name, saying she had a chat with the ex-Manchester United striker at the Europen Champions League final. "I met Dwight Yorke there, as well. He knew I was a Liverpool supporter. He came up to me. He was actually a big tennis fan as well. He teased me a little bit about who had won the league, and who was in the Champions League final and so on. I just told him: 'Hey, listen, I'm here to support Barca'." "I've met many of them," she said. "I've gotten messages wishing me good luck. The last three weeks I've been in the spotlight, supposedly dating every single guy I eat dinner with. If I say a name, then I'm sure it will make a big headline. So I just prefer to be quiet about it." Yorke meantime, has warned new Manchester boy Ashley Young about life at Old Trafford. "Your life does change when you go to Manchester United, you are scrutinised more, you can't do much, people talk about you. He's not going to have it easy, he's going to have to go and fight for his place because there are so many quality players there," said Yorke.
Sheffield could pay $7.5 million for Scotland
Striker Jason Scotland is rumoured to be a 750,000 pound target for English League One club Sheffield Wednesday. Club chairman Milan Mandaric confirmed on Tuesday that his club would be willing to make the move for the former Swansea City striker who has been reportedly set to exit Ipswich Town. "It will be Gary Megson's call because he has a relationship with those players and it would take some convincing to come to us rather than stay in the Championship," Mandaric said. Scotland has also been tracked by Brighton. The former Defence Force man has scored 136 goals in 317 matches for seven different clubs over his career so far. He had ten strikes in 39 appearances for Ipswich in 2010/2011.
