T&T's boys and girls teams will leave today for Puerto Rico to compete in the UANA Pan American Under-17 Water Polo Championships which takes place from Friday to August 12 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This is the tenth edition for the girls while the boys will be involved in the 16th edition. This competition is the toughest junior competition in the Americas with the USA, Canada, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Curacao, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela and Peru all taking part.
The Championships are classification tournaments for the FINA Junior World Championships to be held in Perth, Australia, next year. T & T had a creditable performance among the boys in the CONSANAT Championships where they placed fifth and was the only team for the tournament to defeat hosts and eventual winners Colombia. The team is expected to have some warm up matches against Puerto Rico and Canada before official competition starts on Friday. The teams will return home on August 13.
