Boxer Ria Ramnarine has branded the judges involved in her fight against Anastasia Toktaulova as "incompetent" following her loss at the Jean Pierre Complex on Friday night.Puerto Ricans Raul Nieves (93-96) and Hernando Steidel (93-97) and Panamanian Hector Afu (94-96) unanimously voted in Russian Toktaulova's favour, granting her the WIBA and WBA Featherweight crowns.
Speaking during a press conference at Ma Pau Restaurant in Woodbrook yesterday, Ramnarine said she was left unimpressed with the trio's level of professionalism."I had the opportunity to look at the scorecard. There was incompetence and I have to say, ineptitude in the tabulations. I don't think it would have made a difference in the result of the fight but the mere fact that the judges tabulated the scored wrongly just goes to show that there was incompetence on their part."Ramnarine also lamented the fact that there were no local judges for her fight, feeling that there should have been one from each fighter's home country and one neutral.Looking back at her controversial victory over Venezuelan Ana Fernandez in 2009, the 32-year-old said it had come back to haunt her in her three fights since.
"Since that Fernandez fight, it seems that I have been paying the price for it. When the Estudo Tada fight was ruled a draw, a lot of people thought that I had won. People said, 'well its payback for the Ana Fernandez fight.' "When they gave me a split decision against Olga Julio, people said the same thing and it was said again after I came out of the ring on Friday. They say an eye for and eye and Mahatma Ghandi said an eye for an eye would make us all blind. Well, I am triple blind because I think that this is the third time I have payed with my eye for that."
Regarding her future, Ramnarine said she would be interested in a rematch with Toktaulova though she felt she had nothing to gain by taking on Fernandez again."Frankly speaking, Ana Fernandez does not have anything to offer me so we'll have to see. I have always fought the top contenders and if you look at my record, while it is not a pretty one, you will see that my opponents have always been highly rated. I think at this stage in my career I have to look at people who have something to offer me."
