Rain showed up for the third successive day at the WICB Regional Under-19 Championship, leaving teams with all to play for in the final round starting tomorrow.Yet again, not a ball was bowled at any of the venues as water-logged outfields, resulting from overnight and early morning rain, ensured that players were restricted to the pavilions.Contests at the Demerara Cricket Club between T&T and Barbados and at Bourda between Guyana and Windward Islands, were called off before the scheduled start. At Everest, umpires stretched the game between leaders Jamaica and Leeward Islands beyond lunch with inspections at 11 am and 12.30 pm, before finally abandoning play at 12.45 pm.
Each team received three points from the rain-ravaged round, leaving Jamaica on 31 points, T&T second on 27.3 points and Barbados third on 23.3 points. All three teams are still in with a chance of taking the three-day crown. T&T 3.7 points behind leaders Jamaica will fancy their chances of lifting the crown as they come up against a struggling last placed Leeward Islands. Manager of the T&T team Roland Sampath said yesterday the boys will be going very hard at the Leewards in order to give themselves the best chance of lifting the title.
"We are hoping that the rain does not spoil the final round-as we are in a good position to make a serious challenge for the title. We come up against the Leewards and we are looking to win that game big. Our spinners will be looking to make a big impression in that game but we need to get out in the middle."We need for the rain to hold in order for us to have an opportunity. We are also hoping that the Windward Islands put up a fight against Jamaica, which would be great for us."
