A seven-night Srimad Bhaagwat Maha Puran Yagna was organised by Dattatreya Yoga Centre (DYC) from July 24 to 30 in the divine guidance of Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji. The exposition Bhaagwat Mahapuran, with its 12 skandhas (chapters) and 18,000 slokas (verses), is an eternal fountain-head of spiritual knowledge which is as relevant today as it was when it first came into existence. It provides that foundation whereby humanity can keep steady and get solace and hope in this age. Swami Brahmadeo ji and Swami Manasa ji, two eminently divine personalities of India, presented discourses on the Bhaagwat Maha Puran with the katha's (scriptural readings) meaning and philosophies.
The dissemination of the highest knowledge of the holy scripture was done in such a unique manner. The Srimad Bhaagwatam's essentially intrinsic values transformed the ashram of DYC into a multiversity, where all bhaktas (devotees) gathered to drink the ambrosial nectar as both Swamijis churned this ocean of knowledge, giving the nectar of spiritual bliss to humanity. There was no aspect of teaching that was left out, all listeners received three-fold knowledge: spiritual, scientific and academic.
Swami Brahmadeo ji presented the great speaker tradition of Bhaagwatam, from Narayan to Brahma, Brahma to Narada, Narada to Sukhdev ji, Sukhdev ji to Parikshit and Sut ji then to Janmejaya and Ugrashrawa.
The ideal of householding life was presented through the katha of Manu and Shatrupa, Kardama and Devahuti and Kashyap and Aditi. During his discourse Swamiji gave the Vedantic meaning of Putana.
He said: "Putana is a symbol of ignorance (Avidya) and Kalianaag (snake) is a symbol of all types of negativity in life which is like poison." Bhagwan Sri Krishna destroyed Putana and Kalianag and vanquished 14 Rakshas(negative forces). These 14 negative forces, Swami Brahmadeo ji said, was a symbol of the impurities of the ten sense organs and mind, intellect, consciousness and ego (Man, Buddhi, Chit and Aham). Swamiji explained that the Govardhan puja and message was not simply a story.
"Go means sense organs, Vardhan means to develop and grow. To elevate the sense organs towards divine consciousness is the meaning of Govardhan. If we want to remove these negativities that afflict our lives, our effort, Guru and God's grace is necessary," he said. In a beautiful recount of Rasleela and Maha Rasleela (sportive games), Swamiji clearly expressed that the Gopis were Vedic mantras and seers of Tretayug, who appeared in Dwapar yug during the leela of Sri Krishna. Finally, he touched on the Avadhootas of Bhaagwatam.
