T&T Veterans finished fourth out of six teams after winning two and losing three of their round robin matches in the Senior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships which concluded yesterday in the Cayman Islands. T&T started off with a 4–1 win over the Bahamas in the first round robin fixture on Thursday then made it two from two with a 3–2 win over the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) the same day. The team was then shunned with a 5–0 thrashing by Barbados and then 3–2 by the hosts Cayman Islands on Friday to end in fourth spot. Barbados was the winners of the overall Veterans event, winning all five of their teams' matches.
In the final round robin fixture which took place yesterday, T&T again lost in their third consecutive teams match, 4–1 to Jamaica. Men's over-50 player, John Holley was the only player to take a match point against Jamaica, winning in three straight sets against Eddie De Pass. Men's over-40 veteran Peter Pirtheesingh was the only other player close to winning a match taking the first two sets 11/5 and 13/11, but was ultimately defeated three sets later 12/10, 11/5 and 11/3 to Andrew Mahfoud. The T&T Men's team had an outing to forget. The team in Pool B lost all three matches to Barbados (5–0), Bermuda (3–2) and the Cayman Islands (4–1). Playing for the fifth to seventh places in the playoffs, yesterday, the T&T Men's team then lost to Guyana 4–1 to finish in last place.
The OECS was eventual winners beating top seeded Jamaica 3–2 in the Men's Team event. Only three teams participated in the Women's team events. Barbados won both of their matches 5–0 easily winning that title. The Men's Individual final took place on Wednesday with top-seeded Jamaican Chris Binnie defeating Richard Chin of Guyana after four sets, 2–11, 11–3, 11–7, 11–5. Chin eliminated T&T's Kale Wilson in the "round-of-16" before advancing all the way to the final. Kevin Bailey of the OECS won the Men's Individual Plate final after five sets against Guyana's Robert Mc David.
In the Men's Individual Special Plate, Bermuda's Micah Franklin defeated Alexander Arjoon 11–5, 11–8, 11–7. Arjoon was also victorious against Wilson beating him in three sets in the quarterfinal. Nicholette Fernandes of Guyana won the Women's Individual title when she defeated Karen Meakins of Barbados after four sets in the final. Rhea Khan was eliminated in the quarterfinal by Marlene West. Khan recovered to win the Women's Individual- Special Plate final 11–1, 11–5, 11–6 against Allison Strobridge.
