Another security guard has been shot dead by robbers, this time in Cocoyea, San Fernando. Police said Richard Dove, 42, of Embacadere, who had been employed at Cocoyea Supermarket on the Naparima Mayaro Road, was shot once in the back by robbers. Dove, police said, was not armed. Dove's murder came two weeks after Holly Matthews, an employee of Pentagon Security Services, was fatally shot at Park View Supermarket in Palmiste. Police have since arrested three suspects into that killing.
Police said around 3.50 pm yesterday, an employee of the supermarket arrived at the car park after conducting a business transaction at a bank. The worker, police said, had a pouch with an undisclosed amount of money. Investigators said Dove met the employee in the car park and took the pouch from her. They said as Dove was re-entering the grocery, a man accosted him and tried to snatch the pouch.
A struggle ensued during which another man came from behind Dove and shot him at point-blank range.
The men ran away with the pouch through St Andrews Street and got into a waiting car. A team of officers led by ASP Zamsheed Mohammed, Sgt Anthony Charles along with the Crime Scene Unit, Task Force and Southern Division CID visited the scene. They searched the area but was unsuccessful in apprehending the suspects. MP for San Fernando East, Patrick Manning, visited the scene and said that he heard about the murder in his constituency.
