France-based duo Dexter St Louis and Rheann Chung will lead this country's quest for more glory when the 53rd Senior Caribbean Table-Tennis Championship resumes today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana after yesterday's rest day. The 44-year-old St Louis, winner of mixed doubles title with Chung on Sunday and silver medal winner in the men's doubles with Curtis Humphreys on Tuesday, is among the favourites to add to his four previous men's singles triumphs in 1998, 2004, 2006 and 2009. St Louis is expected to face a tough test from Dominican Republic players Juan Vila Batista, Emile Santos as well as Barbadian brothers Trevor and Kevin Farley.
Humphreys, Michael Nanton and five-time national singles champion, Reeza Burke all part of the silver medal T&T men's team on Saturday are also in the preliminary round group series. In the women's tournament, 25-year-old Chung, champion in 2004, 2008 and 2009, the last time it was held in Guyana, is also among the favourites. But, like St Louis she will need to overcome her main rivals in Dominican Republic's Eva Britto and Yohenny Valdez while nine-time national champion Aleena Edwards, Linda Partap-Boodhan and Ashley Quashie are also entered.
On Tuesday, St Louis and Humphreys had to settle for the silver in the men's doubles after going under to Vila and Santos 5-11, 7-11, 9-11. In the semifinals, St Louis and Humphreys battled past Guyana's Paul David and Idi Lewis 11-2, 10-12, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6. Nanton and Burke won their round-of-16 clash with Romano Spencer and Luc Velox 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 before losing to Vila and Santos 2-11, 4-11, 2-11. Local Under-21 player, Kyle Borneo paired with Guyana's H Griffith to beat Robert Ballantyne and Carlton Daniel 12-14, 13-11, 11-9, 12-10 in the last-6 but they bowed out at the next hurdle, to David and Lewis, 11-9, 14-16, 4-11, 11-9, 4-11.
