Both Queen's Park Cricket Club's (QPCC) championship (men) and over-35 (veterans) teams delivered outstanding performances, finishing runners-up in their respective divisions in the recently concluded 26th Banks International Hockey Festival, which was held at various venues across Barbados. The week-long tournament featured competition in categories of men's, women's, veterans and mixed teams. Following an opening day 5-0 rout over defending champions Dominion in the Men's Division, QPCC went on to win a further two matches and draw one to qualify for the semi-finals. Within 10 minutes, QPCC were 2-0 down, but managed to pull one back by the 15th minute thanks to a neat finish by youngster Evan Farrell. The score remained 2-1 until half time. Soon after the match resumed, All Stars extended their lead with another goal, making a comeback for QPCC even more difficult.
QPCC left it late but did turn on the pressure with 10 minutes left to go, with Jery Bell eventually coming up with an answer in the 65th minute to keep the match alive at 3-2. After several attempts on goal, three of which smashing the upright, QPCC were out at the end of the match, unable to find the equalizer, with All Stars keeping the one-goal advantage. The veterans also had a successful stint through the group stage, winning two matches with one loss, advancing on the top on the virtue of "most goals". QPCC's veterans were placed against invited Swiss opposition- The Flying Hoppers and won the match convincingly, 7-2. The QPCC team, however, got a workout in the final against another local team Mount Gay Maples, conceding five unanswered goals. The team were suffering with some injuries as was evident, with a couple players having played 11 matches in only five days. The two finals, however, did conclude an outstanding tour for the "Parkites" in the competition which saw 42 teams from the host country Barbados, T&T, United States, England, Canada and Switzerland. Along with All Stars (men) and Mount Gay Maple (veterans), A Badd Connection (women), Sentry Security Rockets (mixed) were the winners in their respective divisions.
