W Con­nec­tion came from be­hind to edge St Ann's Rangers 2-1 in their Dig­i­cel T&T Pro League 2011/2012 sea­son open­er ar the Ato Boldon Sta­di­um, Cou­va on Sat­ur­day. Rangers took a sur­prised lead in the 17th minute when one of its off-sea­son sign­ings, mid­field­er Mikhail Awai, struck a pow­er­ful right foot­er from dis­tance past goal­keep­er Aque­lius Sylvester fol­low­ing some neat build up by Kaashif Thomas. De­spite falling be­hind, W Con­nec­tion, com­ing off a tro­phy less cam­paign last year, en­joyed the bet­ter of the ear­ly ex­changes and was de­nied get­ting on even terms in the 32nd minute when Rangers' Ja­maican cus­to­di­an Shane Mat­tis tipped over an ef­fort from for­mer San Juan Jabloteh strik­er, 19 year-old Jer­rel Brit­to.

Two min­utes lat­er Brit­to was at the cen­tre of his team's at­tack once more as he head­ed over­bar from a Hughton Hec­tor cen­tre while in the 40th minute he wast­ed an­oth­er chance af­ter he failed to beat Mat­tis from a one-on-one po­si­tion in­side the six-yard box. Brit­to, a na­tion­al youth team strik­er, fi­nal­ly opened his ac­count for W Con­nec­tion three min­utes be­fore the break when he climbed per­fect­ly at far post to head home a Ker­ron Cum­mings right sided cor­ner to send both teams lev­el at the half. Six min­utes af­ter the restart, W Con­nec­tion with new cap­tain Hec­tor con­duct­ing things in mid­field cre­at­ed an­oth­er open­ing but this time it was an­oth­er teenag­er Shah­don Win­ches­ter who blast­ed high over the goal. Hec­tor him­self had a de­cent ef­fort which went just wide two min­utes lat­er, be­fore de­fend­er Jo­evin Jones, got the win­ner in the 72nd minute.

With the win, W Con­nec­tion joins league debu­tants, T&TEC at the top of the ta­ble with three points each af­ter the lat­ter had a sim­i­lar 2-1 win over Di­recTV North East Stars at the Mar­vin Lee Sta­di­um, Ma­coya on Fri­day night.
