Boca Juniors, the reigning Tiger Tanks Trinidad Unlimited sponsored Fyzabad Community Football League champions, edged Standard SC 2-1 to keep its perfect record intact at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground on Saturday. Rodney Young opened the scoring in the 40th minute for Boca Juniors when he fired past gaolkeeper Amar Ramnarine and five minutes into the second-half Emmanuel Adams increased the lead to 2-0 with a great solo effort. But the goal of the game was yet to come when teenage standout Steffan Seepersad, also a national youth cricketer, got the ball in the 68th minute.
Heading to goal, he dribbled two defenders on the left, turned and dribbled them again then unleashed a beauty of a left footer to the far right passed a bewildered Adisa Noel in goal for Boca Juniors to slice the deficit in half. However, Boca held on to secure its fifth straight win from as many matches and with it maximum 15 points, three ahead of Gallows United FC and New Comers.
Gallows led by a brace from the league's leading scorer,, Kafele Geoffroy (10th, 25th) and Carlis Green (13th, 40th) trounced Avocat United 5-0. The Fyzabad Community Football League, now in its 27th year, was opened on July 31 at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground with eight participating teams vying for over $30,000 worth of prizes sponsored by Tiger Tanks Trinidad Unlimited.
