Khadidra Debesette scored a beaver-trick as the Soca Princesses kicked off their Caribbean Football Union Women's Under-17 Group B qualifiers with a 13-0 demolition of Dominica at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Wednesday night. Going into the contest, both Soca Princesses' coach Stephan De Four and his Dominican counterpart, Egbert Jno Baptiste said they had little knowledge of each other's team. However, with the first half-hour, the Soca Princesses, boasting four members of the historic 2010 team which hosted the second FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup in Canada-based Diarra Simmons, Victoria Swift, Debesette and captain Anique Walker had stamped their authority on the contest with a comfortable 5-0 cushion. Walker opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a well placed right footer which left goalkeeper Kadisha Joseph hapless from atop the area. The goal by Walker seemed to open the floodgates as Debesette (15th, 18th), Naomie Guerra (21st) and Rhonda Guissepi (30th) and Debesette, again in the 36th minute all added to the scoreline to put the match beyond doubt, even before St Lucia referee Sabina Charles Kirton blew the half-time whistle.
Seven minutes into the second-half, the Soca Princesses picked up where they left off with Simmons opening her account while Debesette, whose sister Khadisha missed out due to illness completed her beaver-trick three minutes later for an 8-0 advantage. By then the Soca Princesses may have lost track of the score as the absence of a working scoreboard might have been a favour to the visitors. But it did not stop the onslaught as Walker (67th), Guissepi (81st), Simmons (83rd) all got a second item before Victoria Swift (76th) and substitute Shenice Garcia, who replaced Debesette in the 64th minute completed the drubbing four minutes from full-time to signal a perfect start to the locals bid to qualify for next year's FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup in Azerbeijan, September 12-October 13, 2012.
Speaking after the match a satisfied De Four said, "It was a fitting scoreline and result for us tonight." Both teams leave today for Dominica where the away-leg will be contested on Sunday, while T&T will face St Kitts/Nevis on October 2 and October 5. For Sunday's match, De Four has made one change to the local squad with Khadisha Debesette replacing Simmons. The winner of the three-team group will join other group winners, Jamaica, Bahamas and Guyana in a four-team CFU second round round-robin series from which the top three teams will advance to the CONCACAF finals.
