Sandhya Moll and Adelle Stollmeyer will represent T&T in the under-16 and under-14 categories, respectively, in the T&T leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association's (CEA) Junior Show Jumping Competition on Republic Day weekend (September 24 and 25) at the Hidden Valley Stables, Santa Cruz.
Visiting countries will include Jamaica, Barbados and the Cayman Islands with all three countries sending one coach and two riders. Last weekend young equestrians put on an impressive show-jumping display, when the T&T Equestrian Association (T&TEA) held trials on September 10-11 to determine who would be the riders to represent our country in the CEA regional event. The trials consisted of six jumping rounds with riders being allowed to drop one round, that being their worst score.
The courses set were challenging, and over the two days of competition, each rider competed on three different horses, to further test their abilities. In the under-16 category, spectators saw keen competition amongst three contenders. Unfortunately, Cammila Garcia was forced to retire having had a fall in the warm-up arena prior to her fifth round. This left Moll and Charlotte Morrison to battle it out for the first place. Both mounts for each of these young ladies knocked only one rail during the entire competition, and since they were allowed to drop one round, this left them both with five clear rounds and zero faults. The deciding factor being only their accumulative times, with Moll's time of 298.78 giving her the win over Morrison's time of 314.08. Despite intense challenges from Amber Thompson and Mariel Lanser, Stollmeyer emerged the winner of the under-14 category, who after dropping her round score with ten faults, took the lead with five clear rounds, and a total of zero faults. Lanser ended the event in second place with a total of seven faults, including two clear rounds, and Thompson, in third with a total of 12 faults, including three clear rounds.
